The Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal recently organized a temporary health camp at Gosainkunda, a famous pilgrimage site during Janaipurnima festival. The HRA has been running this free health camp since 1997 to save life of the pilgrims in Gosainkunda. It is situated at an altitude of 4,380m and is very famous religious lake.

Gosainkunda is located at very high altitude and pilgrims try to ascend fast and they are prone to get Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE) and High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE).

This year on 25th August 2015 (Bhadra 8, 2072), a 7-member medical team left to Dhunche from Kathmandu and arrived Gosainkunda on 28th August and started to work on the same day. The earthquake destroyed the building that HRA used to use for the medical camp so we set up a new temporary tent near by the lake.

This year HRA health camp provided medical facilities to 85 patients. None of them having serious problems but many of them have AMS & High Altitude Headache (HAH). Beside altitude illness our medical team provided care for other medical problems such as Gastritis, diarrhea, minor injury, muscular pain, common cold etc.

Due to the Earthquake and political conditions of the country there were less pilgrims in Gosainkunda. Rather then the difficult condition HRA managed to do the free heath camp. We are very grateful to the Mountain Medicine Society of Nepal (MMSN) for their great help by providing doctors every year for this health camp.
