Over the past 30 years, the HimalayanRescue Association Nepal has been continiously working for the promotion of safety in the mountain by providing medical facility and rescue assistance to the trekkers, mountaineers, support staff, porters and local people. HRA operates two Aid-posts in the mountain; one at Manang and the other at Pheriche. Manang is situated at an altitude of 3500m , on the way to Annapurna circuit trail and Pheriche is located at an altitude of 4300m., which is close to Everest Base Camp. These two Aid posts are open every spring and fall season.
As usual, The Aid-posts in Manang and Pheriche are open for this fall season. The doctors have already arrived there and started to help people. The aid-posts will remain open untill the 10th of December 2004.
There is a regular radio communication with the doctors, 3 times a day. Beside that, we have satellite telephone connection with Manang and Pheriche for emmergency purpose. HRA doctor says that the weather is very nice and trekkers have started going up to the mountains. Everest Base Camp and Cho-la pass, Kongma-la pass in the Everest region and Thrung-la pass in the Annapurna region are open and there is not much snow at present. There may be more snow around late october once there is a heavy snowfall and when it gets colder.
Beside Altitude related illness, HRA doctors deals with variety of medical problems. Yesterday on the 30th of September a delivary case of local women at Pheriche was successfully completed. A baby boy was born happy and healthy.
