Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal organized a "Mountain Safety Training/Workshop" for mountain porters on May 18 to 19, 2006 at Hotel Marsyandi. The objective of the program was to educate porters about the accidents and illness that can happen while going to the mountains as well as related environmental and health related issues.
Below are the topics on which Resource Persons presented their talk:

The method of training program was talks presentation, multimedia presentation on various subjects, video show and photo exhibitions. The response from the participants' were overwhelming. They said that the program was very special and they had a great opportunity to learn about AMS & other mountain related accidents and illness as well as other related topics. The participant also expressed their view that this kind of training/workshop should also be conducted outside Kathmandu.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Mr. Bikram Neupane, Chairman of HRA. The ceremony was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Mr. Shanker Prasad Koirala, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MOCTCA).
The program was inaugurated by Mr. Shanker Prasad Koirala, Joint Secretary of MOCTCA by lightening the Panas. He appreciated the initiatives of HRA for the promotion of safety of porters, trekkers, trekking support staff and local people in the high mountains.
Mr. Bikram Neupane, Chairman of HRA highlighted on the activities and contribution of HRA towards mountain safety. Mr. Santa Subba, Secretary General of HRA delivered welcome speech to the participants and distinguished guests, resource person and journalist. Likewise, Mr. Kumar Ranabhat, Vice Chairman of HRA extended a "Vote of Thanks".
There were total 56 porters, took part on the training workshop. At the end, Chairman, Mr. Bikram Neupane presented the Certificate to the participants and the training workshop was concluded.
