A one day seminar on Mountain Medicine: The South Asian Experience - II was jointly organized by B. P. Koirala India Nepal Foundation (BPKF), Mountain Medicine Society of Nepal (MMSN) and Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal (HRA) on 15th September 2007 at Hotel Himalaya, Kupondole Lalitpur.
The objective of the Seminar is to share the experience and knowledge about the different aspect of mountain medicine/ altitude sickness among the scientists and doctors of south Asia i.e. Nepal India and Pakistan. The other objective of the seminar is to bring mountain medicine into a new level so not only routine trekkers and porters but also bring the message of altitude illness among the pilgrims who travel to holy sites in the Himalayas. This seminar would also draw the interest of young doctors in the field of mountain medicine.
Chairman Mr. Bikarm Neupane chaired the inaugural meeting and Dr. Buddha Basnyat chairman of MMSN and Medical Director of HRA welcomed everybody by delivering welcome speech. Mr. T.C. Pokharel, founder chairman of HRA inaugurated this seminar by lighting on Panas.
Doctors and scientists from Nepal India and Pakistan attended this seminar as a resource person / guest speaker and 75 young Nepali doctors participated this seminar.
After the inaugural ceremony scientific session was conducted where scientist from India, Pakistan Nepal presented various papers related to the different aspect of altitude illness/ mountain medicine. Similarly young medical doctors and students shared their experience about altitude illness, mountain medicine and research related to altitude. Before conclusion a interaction programme among participants and speakers was conducted which was facilitated by Dr. Buddha Basnyat. A Slide presentation on simplified version of altitude sickness was also presented in the evening.
