Ciwec Clinic, Travel Medicine Center, Kathmandu

The CIWEC Clinic Travel Medicine Center is the best source of Western medical care in Nepal and one of the most famous destination travel medicine clinics in the world. The clinic was established in 1982 to meet the need for a Western standard clinic to treat foreign tourists, diplomats and aid workers in Nepal. Since that time, the clinic has focused on the health problems of foreigners in Nepal: we have discovered a new cause of diarrhea, produced over 30 published research papers, and won two international awards for research in travel and wilderness medicine. The clinic is known internationally both for the high level care afforded to patients, and for its reliable research and information about health risks in Nepal. The Travel Medicine Center was the first clinic situated in a developing country that was selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States to participate in its global surveillance program for emerging disease among travelers. At the same time, the clinic has served as a Family Practice Center for the resident foreign and Nepalese communities. The clinic is also a reliable source for the full range of travel-related and childhood immunizations.

Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal

Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal was established in the year 1979 with a handful of trekking agents. It is registered under District Administration office, Kathmandu under his majesty's Government of Nepal. The need of forming such an association was felt in order to bring all trekking agents under one umbrella organization, where they could discuss among themselves the problems and issues faced, and moreover to recognize trekking as an industry. Such a body was also needed to provide meaningful inputs to the government so as to formulate rules and regulations for the benefit of all. There was also a need for a body, which could undertake the major responsibilities to develop and promote adventure tourism in the country. The need for a responsible body, which could play a significant and conducive role to mitigate mountain envieromental stress, was felt essential.
