The Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal (HRA) has been entrusted with the responsibility as the coordinator of the “Tourism Crisis Management Cell” since 2010.
The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has supported the Cell, which works for a smooth movement of tourists even during the times of crisis.
Various tourism related associations like the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), Nepal Association of Tour & Travel Agents (NATTA), Nepal Association of Tour Operators (NATO), Air Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN), Nepal Association of Rafting Agents (NARA), Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter, and Thamel Tourism Development Council (TTDC) extend their respective support to the cell whenever its requires.
HRA has been managing to run shuttle bus services to carry foreigners to the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) from hotels and the vice versa during the period of crisis.
Tourism Crisis Management Cells were established even outside of the Kathmandu Valley (Citawan, Bhairahawa and Pokhara) in December 2011 and January 2012.
The cell in Pokhara is being coordinated by the President of the Pokhara Tourism Council.
The Presidents of the Nepal Association of Tour & Travel Agents (NATTA) Western Regional Chapter, the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Pokhara Chapter and the Western Regional Hotel Association Pokhara are the members of the cell.
Similarly, the representatives of the Nepal Army, the Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, Kaski District Administration Office, Tourist Police, the Federation of Nepalese Jounalists (JNJ) Kaski district chapter and Tourism Office, Pokhara are other members of the crisis management unit. The in-charge of the NTB Pokhara Office is its member-secretary.
In Bhairahawa, a tourism crisis management unit was formed under the coordination of the President of Siddharthanagar Association of Travel Agents. The representatives of the Nepal Army, the Armed police Force, Nepal Police and Rupandehi District Administration Office are members of the unit. The chief of the Tourism Office in Bhairahawa is the member-secretary of the unit.
Likewise, in Chitawan, a crisis management unit was formed under the coordination of the Regional Hotel Association Chitawan. The members of the unit include presidents of the Nature Guide Association, Restaurant and Bar Association, Chitawan, the chief of the Chitawan National Park (Eastern Sector), representatives of the Nepal Army, Police Officer and the Chitawan District Administration Office are members of the cell.
Separate interactions were held in Pokhara, Chitawan and Bhairahawa for discussing issues concerning tourism crisis management. Chairman of HRA Santa Subba, NTB officials, among others, attended the meetings in order to form the crisis management cells.
